Molly's Calico Monet- this is a song I wrote after attending the Pat Martino
clinic. He showed us a compositional technique where you create a musical alphabet
using our english alphabet any mode or scale and spell words with it. For instance,
using the alphabet and C major scale....A is C, B is D, C is E, D is E and so on.... Then
he spelled out words using this technique and played the corresponding melodic unit.
For his example he used the words beautiful and ugly. Ironically beautiful sounded
beautiful and ugly sounded ugly. I decided to give this technique a try and came up with
this song. I think it works well and is a very useful compositional tune. Thank you Mr.
Martino for your great lesson.
