| May 13, 2006 Art Car Parade |
| Every year Bassist David Craig and I participate in the annual Art Car Parade that winds down Allen Parkway to Downtown and back. We are powered by a Honda gas generator and ride on a trailer behind Amy Lynch's Z-bra car (a Range Rover I think with a spectacularly arty zebra paint job). To the jazz people in Houston Amy is the very kind, friendly and smiling waitress at Cezanne Houston's premier jazz club, to the Art Car Parade she has become a fixture and a celebrity over the years. Last year we took third place amongst 260 some odd cars. Not bad! This year the great diva Tianna Hall joined us on vocals and we were entered in the musical competition. There were many bands and the competition was stiff, but I will let you know the outcome. I decided to bring my camera this year to capture some moments of great fun and extreme heat (they keep pushing it closer and closer to summer each year, I don't know why). Hopefully next year I can leave my drum machine at home and add a drummer to the mix....if anyone is interested let me know. But so far the drum machine has served me well....it doesn't get grumpy at the end of a long hot day, it doesn't drink to much beer and fall off the back of the trailer, it keeps immaculate time, but isn't a very good listener..etc..etc...Heh heh. Also maybe next year someone can run the video camera and get some shots of the band....it's kinda hard to play guitar, run the drum machine, lead the band, and shoot a video. The few shots of me and David playing were shot by Tianna during the guitar solos. Anyway, a good time was had by all and I hope you enjoy the video. I made it with an automatic movie making software program call Muvee that came with my tiny aiptek 5100 M. I used the over the top music video setting. The tune in the background is "This Love" by Maroon 5. That was the song we played for the parade. |
